Overview

Finding ID Version Rule ID IA Controls Severity
V-22354 GEN001605 SV-38343r1_rule ECSC-1 Medium
Description
The library search path environment variable(s) contain a list of directories for the dynamic linker to search to find libraries. If this path includes the current working directory or other relative paths, libraries in these directories may be loaded instead of system libraries. This variable is formatted as a colon-separated list of directories. If there is an empty entry, such as a leading or trailing colon, or two consecutive colons, this is interpreted as the current working directory. Paths starting with a slash (/) are absolute paths.

Check Text ( C-36363r1_chk )
Verify the run control scripts library search paths do not contain references to the current working directory or other relative paths in any script where the following library PATH variable(s) occurs.

# egrep "LD_LIBRARY_PATH|SHLIB_PATH" /sbin/init.d/[a-z,A-Z,0-9]*

This variable is formatted as a colon-separated list of directories. If there is an empty entry, such as a leading or trailing colon, or two consecutive colons, this is a finding. If an entry begins with a character other than a slash (/) this is a relative path, and this is a finding.
Fix Text (F-31700r1_fix)
Edit the run control script and remove any relative or empty path entry from the library search path variable.
